2024 Chuseok Hanbottari: A Celebration of Tradition at Korea House

The Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) and the National Intangible Heritage Center (NIHC) will host the “2024 Chuseok Hanbottari” event on September 6 at Korea House in Jung-gu, Seoul, to celebrate the upcoming Chuseok holiday.

This event is organized to commemorate the designation of Korea’s five major traditional holidays—Seollal, Daeboreum, Hansik, Dano, and Chuseok—as National Intangible Heritage in December of last year.

The event features five themed programs: a scholarly conference, a songpyeon-making experience, a storytelling concert, a traditional holiday food exhibition, and a fusion Korean music performance. The conference, organized by the Korean Folklore Society, will explore the cultural significance of Korean holidays as intangible heritage, comparing domestic and international holiday traditions.

Participants can also engage in hands-on experiences, such as the songpyeon-making session and the storytelling concert, which will delve into the cultural and emotional aspects of the Chuseok holiday. Additionally, an exhibition showcasing traditional holiday foods like tteokguk, ogokbap, and songpyeon will be held, along with an evening fusion Korean music performance to celebrate the beauty of traditional Korean music.

All events are free of charge, and pre-registration is required for some programs. Pre-registration opens on August 22 at 2 p.m. through Naver Booking, with limited spots available for each program: 30 for the conference, 40 for the songpyeon-making experience, 120 for the storytelling concert, and 150 for the evening performance.
