Jongmyo Jeryeak Returns to the Main Hall
A Night of Royal Ritual Music ‘Jeyreak’ at Jongmyo Shrine
The Jongmyo Shrine in Seoul is set to host a special cultural experience with the 2025 Royal Ancestral Ritual Music Nighttime Performance, scheduled to run from April 24 (Thursday) to May 2 (Friday) for a total of nine consecutive nights.

The event celebrates the 30th anniversary of Jongmyo’s inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and will take place at the shrine’s Main Hall, a location typically closed to the public after dark.
Jongmyo Jeryeak (종묘제례악), the solemn royal ritual music and dance performed to honor the spirits of deceased kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty, is a cultural legacy that has been preserved for more than six centuries.

Recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, the performance, set against the backdrop of the Jongmyo Shrine, a Tangible Cultural Heritage, offers a rare opportunity to witness both UNESCO treasures simultaneously.
This year’s performance promises a visually immersive experience as the solemnity of traditional music and dance is accentuated by artful nighttime lighting in the serene and historically sacred setting of Jongmyo.
Carefully designed tiered seating for 50 guests per show ensures optimal viewing for all attendees.
The performance will run nightly from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with each show limited to 50 spectators.
Tickets are available on a reservation-only basis, and attendees must be at least 7 years old (born before 2018).
School-aged children and teenagers (born 2007–2018) must be accompanied by a guardian, with each participant required to purchase a ticket individually.
Children under the age of 7 (born after 2019) are not permitted due to safety regulations.
This limited-time event marks a unique opportunity to experience Korea’s royal legacy under the stars, combining ritual, artistry, and heritage into an unforgettable cultural moment.
