Cultural Heritage and Nighttime Beauty Unite in Gangneung

The “Gangneung Cultural Heritage Night Walk” is set to take place from August 15 to 17 at the Gangneung Daedohobu and Seobu Market area in Gangneung.

This festival will showcase the thousand-year history of Gangneung through a variety of performances, experiences, and art programs.

The Gangneung Cultural Heritage Night Walk has been held since 2016 in collaboration with the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea.

The event features eight themed programs (Night View, Night Road, Night Story, Night Painting, Night Tale, Night Food, Night Stay, and Night Market) centered around the city’s cultural heritage sites, offering visitors the chance to experience the rich history and culture of Gangneung.

Through these programs, participants can enjoy a wide range of sights, food, and entertainment, all while gaining a deeper appreciation for the significance and value of Gangneung’s cultural heritage.

Key events include the opening ceremony of the Gangneung Cultural Heritage Night Walk, a Hanbok fashion show, a drone show, and programs linked to traditional markets. Traditional performances such as the Gangneung Danoje “Gwanno Mask Play,” Gangneung Nongak, and the Bangjja Yugi Craftsmanship will also be featured. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a night food street with eight food trucks, a night beer street, and the Gangneung Food Culture Market.

A Gangneung city official stated, “We hope that this year’s Gangneung Cultural Heritage Night Walk will promote the city’s cultural heritage and traditions, offering a unique summer night experience for both residents and visitors.”
