Yeoncheon Paleolithic Festival – Explore Prehistoric Cultures
Experience Prehistoric Life at the 2025 Yeoncheon Paleolithic Festival!
The 2025 Yeoncheon Paleolithic Festival, the world’s largest prehistoric cultural event, will take place from May 2 to May 5, 2025, at the Jeongok-ri archaeological site in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province.

This festival is held at the Jeongok-ri site, home to the first known human settlement on the Korean Peninsula, and has grown into a major historical and experiential event, attracting over 100,000 visitors annually.
The discovery of the Acheulean hand axe in Jeongok-ri in 1978 was a groundbreaking moment in global archaeology, challenging the traditional theory that divided Paleolithic cultures into Eastern and Western traditions.
Originally launched in 1993 as a small local event, the Yeoncheon Paleolithic Festival has evolved into an international platform where visitors can explore prehistoric cultures from around the world.
The festival offers a unique opportunity to step away from modern civilization and experience the wisdom of prehistoric life.
One of the festival’s main attractions is the World Paleolithic Experience, featuring prehistoric cultural exhibits and activities from Germany, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Austria, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea.
Additionally, visitors can participate in the Paleolithic Barbecue Experience and Paleolithic Performances, which bring the daily life of prehistoric humans to life.
There will also be a variety of family-friendly activities, including the Yeoncheon Thematic Tour, Paleolithic Olympics, Archery Experience, Children’s Day Special Program, and Paleolithic Night Events. Furthermore, visitors can explore local specialty markets, cultural performances, and exhibitions that highlight Yeoncheon’s unique heritage.
Festival Overview:
• Date: May 2 (Fri) – May 5 (Mon), 2025
