Discover Wild Herbs in Yangpyeong Yongmunsan — Taste the Flavors Once Reserved for Kings

The 15th Yangpyeong Yongmunsan Wild Herb Festival will take place from April 25 to April 27, 2025, at Yongmunsan Tourist Area and around Yongmun Station in Yangpyeong County.

With the slogan “Let’s GO (EatGO, RestGO, EnjoyGO) Yangpyeong Wild Herbs!”, the event continues a centuries-old legacy that ties the region’s natural bounty to history, health, and culture.

Rooted in historical records, this festival highlights the long-standing reputation of Yangpyeong’s wild herbs.

According to the Sejong Sillok Jiriji from the 15th century, the region was once a supplier of delicacies such as jujubes, shiitake mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, and ganoderma to the royal court.

Further reinforcing its culinary heritage, scholar Yu Deuk-gong’s poem “Feeding a Scholar with Two Herbs from Yongmunsan” praises the exquisite aroma and taste of local herbs.

Another historical record, Dongguk Yeoji Ji, compiled by scholar Yu Hyung-won, describes Yongmunsan wild herbs as the finest royal tribute items.

Now in its 15th year, the festival retains that celebrated excellence. The 2025 edition features a diverse program combining tradition, education, and entertainment. Key highlights include:

Main Programs: A multi-sensory walk-through exhibition, a “Magical Wild Herb Cooking Class,” and a wild herb fusion cooking competition.

Side Events: A “Wild Herb Therapy” zone, a “Wild Herb Bubble Show,” and interactive arts & crafts sessions themed around local flora.

Local Marketplaces: A Korean beef food market and a special section for Yangpyeong’s regional specialties will also operate throughout the festival, particularly near Yongmun Station.

With free admission and activities catering to all ages, this spring celebration invites both locals and visitors to immerse themselves in the unique flavors and cultural richness of Yangpyeong’s mountainous landscape.
