Seongho Cultural Festival Returns to Ansan
Seongho Cultural Festival — Discover Silhak philosophy through art, games, and tradition
The city of Ansan in Gyeonggi-do will host the 2025 Seongho Cultural Festival from May 31 to June 1 at Seongho Park.
This two-day cultural and artistic event honors the legacy and achievements of Seongho Yi Ik, a renowned scholar of the late Joseon Dynasty who resided in Cheomseongchon (modern-day I-dong) and championed the philosophy of Silhak, or “seeking truth from facts.”

The festival will begin with a traditional Confucian-style memorial ritual held at the shrine dedicated to Yi Ik.
This will be followed by cultural performances such as Dunbaemi Nori and Wari Pungmul Nori, both designated as local intangible cultural heritage of Ansan.
Attendees can also enjoy traditional art performances, folk games, and hands-on experiences that bring the values of Silhak to life.
Key participatory events include the Seongho Drawing Contest and the Silhak Golden Bell Quiz, which invite children and students to engage with Seongho’s ideas in an interactive way.
In addition, a panel exhibition on Seongho’s philosophy, along with special lectures hosted in collaboration with the Seongho Museum, will offer deeper insight into the scholar’s humanitarian spirit and contribution to Korean history, culture, and arts.
The festival grounds will also feature a range of hands-on experience booths, showcasing regional traditions, as well as a food truck zone to add flavor and variety to the celebration.
Hosted by Ansan City and the Ansan Cultural Center, the Seongho Cultural Festival aims to reaffirm the identity of Ansan as a hub of practical learning and cultural heritage while providing residents and visitors with meaningful, family-friendly experiences rooted in Korea’s intellectual and traditional legacy.
