Damyang Bamboo Festival 2025: A Celebration of Green Heritage
Discover nature, tradition, and fun at Damyang bamboo capital in Korea
Hosted by Damyang-gun and organized by the Damyang Bamboo Festival Committee, the 2025 Damyang Bamboo Festival will take place from May 2 to May 6 across the Damyang-eup area, including the famous Juknokwon Bamboo Garden and the nationally designated natural monument Gwanbangjerim Forest.
The festival celebrates Damyang’s natural heritage, culture, and art with a rich lineup of events and activities.

The festival traces its roots to “Jukchuil (竹醉日),” a traditional village event where locals gathered to plant bamboo.
Visitors can enjoy hands-on experiences like bamboo raft and canoe rides, making bamboo water guns and kites, and walking through the bamboo forests filled with phytoncides and negative ions.
Gwanbangjerim, located near Juknokwon, features 300-year-old towering trees, offering a peaceful backdrop for cultural events, music performances, and local food tasting.
The festival kicks off with a grand opening performance featuring major Korean singers such as Kim Jong-kook, Seol Woon-do, and So Chan-whee, followed by DJ EDM nights, drone light shows, and traditional ceremonies like the Jukshin Ritual.
Daily music and dance performances by local artists and cultural groups fill the open-air stages throughout the event.
For youth and families, the festival offers national-level contests such as a youth drawing competition, K-pop talent show, drone sports competition, and career experience zones (beauty and drone piloting), as well as baking and traditional liquor classes.
This year, Juknokwon will open at night for the first time, transforming into a bamboo-lit paradise for evening busking and immersive art displays. Interactive activities like SNS challenges, lucky draw events, and target games will add excitement to the visitor experience.
Local specialties and produce will be available at food and farmers’ markets, with additional events to promote Hanwoo beef, free postcard writing stations, and free photo print booths to capture memories.
A festival official stated, “Damyang’s one-of-a-kind eco-cultural festival preserves tradition while introducing sustainable tourism experiences. We hope visitors discover the healing beauty of the bamboo and leave with unforgettable memories.”
