Jeonju Hanok Village, Parade of Flags and Drums
Street Folklore Comes Alive in Jeonju Hanok Village
Jeonju City and the Jeonbuk Cultural Tourism Foundation are presenting the 2025 Hanok Village Traditional Performance Parade – Nosangnoriya, held every Saturday from April 12 to October 25 along Taejo Road in Jeonju Hanok Village.

Organized by the Hapgood Village Cultural Producers’ Cooperative, this traditional street parade showcases Jeonju’s unique folk heritage in a lively, immersive setting.
Now in its 13th year, the parade brings to life Jeonju’s regional folklore through a mix of music, dance, humor, and participatory activities.

Inspired by the heritage of Jeonju Gijeopnori—a performance tradition designated as Jeonbuk Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 63—the event includes large-scale dragon-flag performances, pungmul (Korean folk percussion), and playful madangnori theater.
The parade begins at Namcheon Bridge, where performers, dressed in traditional attire, lead with booming drums and a massive dragon flag.
Visitors are encouraged to join the procession as it moves down the car-free Hanok Village’s main street.
Along the way, short folk skits, traditional Olympic-style games, and comic performances offer audiences of all ages chances to participate.
At Gyeonggijeon Square, the event culminates in a daedongnori (communal dance and music gathering), where participants are invited to sing Mandu-re sori—Jeonju’s traditional labor chant—and dance together in a circle.
This unique experience allows both locals and tourists to become part of a living cultural tradition that spans generations.
Originally launched in 2012 by local elders and performance artists with a shared desire to preserve Jeonju’s folk customs, the parade has grown into a signature cultural event.
With more than 20 days of performances each year, it offers an accessible way for audiences to experience Korea’s vibrant traditions up close, in the historic heart of Jeonju.
The performances are held every Saturday from 2:30 to 3:30 PM and are free to attend.
The event also includes opportunities for visitors to take photos with performers, learn folk songs, and interact with traditional instruments and props.
Both Korean and international visitors are welcome to join, with the event widely regarded as one of the most joyful and unexpected cultural encounters in Jeonju Hanok Village.
